Spring 2016 Nail Trends

We’re getting you the backstage scoop on Spring 2016 nail trends from Toronto Fashion Week. With several Canadian designers showcasing their talents, each show is thrilling and inspiring. We checked out World MasterCard Fashion Week (WMCFW) for nail trends on the runway by Essie for Spring 2016.
Rita Remark, Essie’s Global Lead Educator and Lead Nail Artist is the mastermind behind these nail designs. Rita has just returned from New York Fashion week where she prepped nails for the runway as well. Her creative, high-impact designs were strategically planned, and totally awesome.
For Mackage, Rita designed a nail that was more edgy, less feminine and very streamlined. She wanted a chic design with negative space that was contemporary, but with a pop of colour from the turquoise. This paired well with the bold, edgy Mackage show, which featured many dark colours and masculine inspired outfits.
The next show that Essie created nail designs for was Lucian Matis. This look was similar to a traditional French manicure, and allowed for a simple, classic look. The design was more graphic and bold than the typical delicate French mani. Prints, embroidery and beaded accents were the focus of the show for a fresh, feminine look. The simple nails complemented the outfits perfectly.
The runway at Haley Elsaesser was filled with plenty of colour, prints, and playful designs. To mimic this on the nails, Rita went for a colourful, ombre approach. This more wild, loud design matched the clothing perfectly and was extremely vivid and eclectic.
At Matthew Gallagher, Essie stayed simple, but with an edge. The line of negative space added some excitement, as well as the unique matte look from the topcoat, which provided a velvety appearance. Gallagher is known for his designs for cocktail and gala events, in which case these subtle nails were a sweet touch.
Lastly, Essie designed nails for Mikhael Kale’s floral inspired show. Each model’s hair and make-up had a very dewy, wet look. The nails for the show focused on texture rather than colour, providing a “dipped in gel” look.
Backstage Rita spilled a few nails tips and tricks. Firstly, her favourite tool is an angled eyeliner brush. She believes that it is perfect to cleanup mistakes, and straighten lines. Once dipped in acetone, it can be your best home manicure tool.
As for the Essie fall 2015 line, rock ’n’ roll is taking centre stage. Intense metallics, and darker colours are targeted to the “unstoppable, impossibly stylish muse”. Winter 2015 is inspired by a ski chalet, and aprés-ski ensemble. The winter wonderland shades are light, and warm with a focus on pastels. Don’t fret though because your classic reds and dark colours will also be debuted to warm you up on the chilly days to come. Of course, some shine will be included for the holidays and New Year’s Eve.
