Resolutions Revisited
2015 was an interesting year.
I took a look back today at the new year’s resolutions I made last year and wanted to see if I actually did what I set out to do. I figure you can’t know where you’re going unless you know where you’ve been, so here’s how it all went:
Resolution #1 – Schedule Downtime
What Actually Happened – I was really good until April, when I got really, really sick. I was scheduling in yoga, working out, took up barre classes and planning things to do on the weekend. I got a bad cold which turned into bronchitis for about 6 weeks and that just threw me off. I need to get back on the wagon again and start a consistent workout plan so I don’t get stressed out, angry or anxious.
Resolution #2 – Say No and Don’t Feel Guilty About it
What Actually Happened – I actually started saying no and started feeling better about my life. I took a year off from visiting Toronto all the time and felt like I had more time to cultivate what I wanted to do here in LA. I did the things I actually wanted to do. I realized that I get overwhelmed pretty easily (especially being in a new city), so overscheduling myself is always a bad idea. I didn’t feel bad if I flaked every once in awhile – because that’s life. I am grateful for a life presents me with so many interesting opportunities, but I have finally realized that I don’t have to say yes to every single one of them because of FOMO.
Resolution #3 – Self Care
What Actually Happened – This one sort of ties in with saying no. By saying no, I had more time to focus on self care. There’s definitely room for improvement for me to start cooking well, eating better and exercising, I just need to continue to prioritize all of these things and myself and not get lazy about it.
Resolution #4 – Things Don’t Have to Be Perfect
What Actually Happened – If you knew me in my early 20s, I was an overreaching perfectionist. Not healthy. I’m now less so and have learn to let go of a lot of things. It’s a work-in-progress that I’m aware of. I think Paul has made me a more laid-back person, but growing up in chaotic household packed full of stuff (my Mom doesn’t throw anything out!) – I definitely overcompensate by doing the absolute opposite. I still love the little details, but I don’t have to live my life worrying about those little details.
So what are your resolutions for 2016? Did you stick to what you set out to do in 2015?
