How-To Make Money Selling Your Books Online

One of the major things I did after reading Marie Kondo’s book was start paring down my book collection. I have collected so many random things over the years at different stages of my life that there really is no point holding on to all of it. I even shared a few tips on how I sold all my furniture online.

So I started googling how I could ‘make money selling your books online’. My best experience was using an aggregator called BookScouter which lets you compare the prices of what you could get for your book on various sites. I ended up going with CKY Books which I found through BookScouter because I wanted to just ship to one company and their buyback prices were fair and comparable to the others.

I ended up selling back about 12 different paperbacks, hardcovers and textbooks – all were in great condition. The best part is that shipping is free and you can print off a FedEx of USPS or UPS shipping label with your buyback submission. I think I made about $30 off the whole thing, but it’s still better than nothing!

The only pain was finding boxes and shipping materials that were acceptable by FedEx. My tip? Save your Amazon boxes if you’re selling your books online soon. Keep the packing material too! It will make the whole process a breeze. It’s also worth it if you have at least 15-20 books to sell so you get a decent payout. My cheque came within 2 weeks of sending in my books.

Another option I considered was Amazon Trade-in, where you can trade-in your old books for an Amazon credit. I also looked at selling my book myself as an Amazon Used Book Seller but the process seemed too time consuming, plus I had to spend the money shipping out the books and pay Amazon a fee – that’s if they sold.
