Spa Life: Le Scandinave Spa – Collingwood

Looking for an easy weekend getaway out of Toronto to recharge?

I finally got back to Le Scandinave Spa in Collingwood, Ontario this past weekend and it is still the perfect spa oasis getaway. Located only two hours from downtown, Toronto I usually like to take a Friday off, leave in the morning to avoid traffic on the 400, grab a quick lunch on the way there and be at the spa by 1 PM.

Nestled in the woods, this year-round Nordic bath experience offers a circuit of hot baths, salt water cold plunges, lush waterfalls, a eucalyptus steam bath and wood-burning Finnish sauna. I love how you can hang out all day outdoors and catch some sun in one of their hammocks or Muskoka chairs. It’s also ideal in winter because the pools keep your body hot! This time I didn’t have to cold plunge, I just let the winter air cool me down before heading to the next hot tub or steam room.

Le Scandinave Spa also offers Swedish and Hot Stone Massage Therapy (from $135 / 60 minutes) performed by an RMT to add to your visit. I tried out the Swedish massage on this visit and Susan did a great job working out all the knots in my neck and shoulders. I was fully relaxed after my session and spent about 90 minutes afterwards in the water circuit.

Robe rentals are available for $12 or you can bring your own. They are only $7 for massage guests. Bring your own refillable water bottle to use as they have refill stations throughout the resort. Don’t forget your bathing suit as the water circuit is co-ed.

This outdoor spa is vast with pools spread out on different levels on the well-manicured and landscaped grounds. The water circuit should be repeated three to four times to maximize the full effect of your hydrotherapy. I like the relaxation areas which include an outdoor fireplace, heated solarium with lounger chairs, terrace and lots of magazines for reading.

The common areas and pools are spacious with lots of curved nooks, so its never too awkward soaking in a hot tub with a bunch of strangers. I do recommend bringing your own flip-flops and towels are provided.

Plan at least two to four hours for your visit, especially if you are booking a treatment. A 60-minute or longer massage includes access to all the Scandinavian Baths. Access to the spa alone is also available for $55 or $45 on Wednesdays, no reservations are required. However there can be a wait list on days they are busy, so you may want to call ahead. Le Scandinave is open daily from 10 AM – 9 PM rain or shine.

If you are planning a full-day at the spa, check out the on-site Bistro for a light snack or lunch. The menu is full of healthy salads, sandwiches and fresh juice in a casual dining space.

I felt completely refreshed after my visit to Le Scandinave Spa in Collingwood.  It feels like luxurious vacation away for the price of a spa day pass. Lots of overnight accommodations & spa packages are available in the Village of Blue Mountain or in Collingwood if you wanted to make a weekend out of it. I suggest going out for dinner afterwards at The Oliver & Bonacini Cafe inside The Westin Trillium Hotel and checking in for the night. Also check out these 8 Fall Getaway Ideas from Toronto.
