I’m an avid supporter of cancer research and have had family members and friends who have been touched by the disease. As a result, I try to be extra mindful of the things I CAN do to prevent it. For me, that includes wearing sunscreen, cutting back on red meat, not smoking and not drinking unless it’s a special occasion. However, sometimes that isn’t enough and there’s so much more research still to be done.

I had my biggest scare when my husband Paul was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2014. Basel Cell Carcinoma is actually a very common form of skin cancer and we’re glad we caught it when we did. Luckily, it was treatable – but we made some serious lifestyle changes after realizing how a cancer diagnosis can come in an instant.

In 2016, an estimated 15 million people will be diagnosed worldwide and that number will skyrocket to 22 million by 2030. I would love to see a cure or advancement in treatment in my lifetime and I know the incredible team at The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre are committed to this goal.

One of the not-so-great side effects of those undergoing treatment is hair loss.

How can you help?

Join the #NoHairSelfie movement and stand alongside those fighting cancer with a virtual or IRL head shave while raising money for The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre! Take a selfie, choose a virtual head shave and then donate to the cause. This unique initiative is the first-ever global fundraising campaign supporting World Cancer Day.

Whether you decide to support the cause with an IRL or virtual head shave, all the funds raised through this app will help fund progress in cancer research.

See what you would look like after a head shave!
