5 Worth-It Beauty Splurges For Your Make-up Bag
What are your favourites beauty splurges?
As someone who grew up buying all sorts of drugstore make-up for under $10, I sometimes find it difficult to spend that little bit extra on higher-end beauty splurges for my make-up bag.
I definitely think there are things WORTH saving money on, but then there are just a few things I think are total beauty splurges that are worth investing into. The higher quality product sometimes justifies the cost. Here are my top 5 beauty worth-it beauty splurges for your make-up bag:
1. The IT Sponge
I can’t believe I spent $25 on a make-up sponge, but honestly it makes my foundation look flawless compared to the strokes of a foundation brush. The Beauty Blender is a pointy sponge you soak in water, dip in your make-up and bounce all over your skin for that ‘airbrushed’ look.
I love it because it makes my foundation go on evenly and looks quite natural. My sponge came with a mini solid soap to wash with daily. Just make sure to replace it every 3-6 months depending on how ofter you use it.
2. HD Foundation
My skin has been breaking out recently after going off medication and I was getting incredibly self-concious about my face. I walked into Sephora and tried out their Color Match system, which takes three photos of your skin and recommends products and colours on the spot.
I was getting so tired of not having the right colour make-up for my skin that I am SO glad that I finally did this. I ended up investing into Make Up Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($43), which looks amazing and incredibly natural without that caked on feeling. It’s the perfect shade for my skin and I only need one pump per application. So a little goes a long way, despite the price tag. No breakouts either!
3. Radiant Concealer
In addition to my new foundation, I invested into a NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($29) which was matched perfectly to my skin. It works great to hide under eye circles while leaving a finishing light-reflecting glow. It gives me really good coverage, blends into my foundation well and does not cake around the eye area. For best results, make sure you use a really good eye cream before applying.
4. Waterproof Eyeliner
I am big into a stay-put eyeliner. If I use a crappy eyeliner, it usually smudges all over my face – giving me even deeper looking under eye circles. So I’ve switched to a glide-on formula that’s waterproof and can wear all day without rubbing off. One of my beauty splurges is the Burberry Effortless Kohl Eyeliner in Jet Black 01 ($29) which gives me a strong and intense colour in a compact retractable format. I don’t sweat the price too much because it lasts forever!
5. A Good Red Lipstick
A good red lipstick takes me from a bleh day to an I feel great kind of day. Maybe it’s because I feel more put together and bold when I have a red lip. Whatever the trickery, I’m good with it – which is why I invested in a good reliable red lipstick that I can wear everyday.
My choice pick is the Clarins Joli Rouge Lipstick ($27) which packs in a lot of moisture, lasts for up-to 6 hours and feels comfortable for all-day wear. It didn’t feel heavy or dry on my lips which is what I loved about it the most.
Do you have any beauty splurges you swear by? What do you invest in and what do you go cheap on?
